Bill Fethke

The Highlands Ranch Community Chorus was founded by William Fethke in the spring 1987.  Its purpose was to fulfill a community need in the South Metro area. This is still accomplished today by providing entertaining performances, a quality singing experience for any adult and opportunities for community service through vocal music.

A group of twenty singers provided its first concert in July of that year.  Since then, it has provided at least two concerts each year.  Its members come from all walks of life and all parts of the south Metro Denver-Douglas County area including Aurora, Arvada, Littleton, Englewood, Highlands Ranch, Sedalia, Castle Rock and Parker.  Membership continues to be open to anyone from anywhere with a sincere desire to participate in the group and the time to attend rehearsals.

Memories of Bill

From Toni Lang

"I was fortunate to call Bill a close personal friend. I joined HRCC because of him (all the while teasing him it was because I had a crush on Heidi, the Assistant Director/Accompanist!), and performed with him in some small groups as well. Just two weeks before we lost him, our group “Déjà Vu … the Trio” performed at the Loretto Center. There I was, announcing our next number, trying to add some intelligent background information, while taking verbal abuse from Bill and Guy (our third). Bill’s masterful tenor vocals and that pulsing bass guitar, along with that dry humor and amazing performance personality are things I miss to this day."

From Corky & Pat Carlson

I can remember at the end of every dress rehearsal Bill would call us all together and encourage us by telling us that we had worked hard and it would be a great concert.  At the concerts, if we weren’t paying attention or looked blah, he would make weird faces at us.

Bill always had a lot to say in between songs, jokes, information about the songs, and more jokes. corny jokes.

Bill had some really fun ideas for concerts including “A Matter of Taste” in which all the music was about food.  We sang about pizza, bubble gum, snacks and of course chocolate .  He was more than surprised when the Chorus threw Baby Ruth candy bars at him at the end of our Chocolate song.
